Jeanne D'Albret (1666-1746), Marquise de Pompadour, was the most influential female figure of the 18th century. She was a patron of the arts, salon hostess and lover to Louis XV. Her position as mistress to the king allowed her to bring together French and Italian artists and writers to create a gilded atmosphere in which she set the fashion trends of the day.
